Main purpose and scope of job

All employees to take care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.  Additionally, employees must also co-operate with the company to enable it to discharge its own responsibilities successfully.

As an Apprentice Maintenance Technician, you will gain skills, knowledge, and experience through hands on work under the supervision of, and alongside a trained, experienced and competent Maintenance Technician.

You will attend college as well as working on site to assist with carrying out Mechanical and Electrical maintenance, breakdown repairs and supply support for the efficient running of Wrexham PFI.  The work will be split between planned and reactive work.

 

Duties and key responsibilities – SHEQ

Responsible for his personal safety and that of all personnel under his or her authority, including others who may be affected by the company’s activities. In particular:

  • Carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions, and to comply with safety rules/procedures, regulations and codes of practice.
  • If aware of any unsafe practice or condition, or if in any doubt about the safety of any situation, consult their supervisor.
  • Obtain and use the correct tools/equipment for the work and not to use any that are unsafe or damaged. All tools, equipment and personal protective equipment must be stored in the approved place after use.
  • Ensure that all guards are securely fixed and that all safety equipment and personal protective clothing/equipment provided are used.
  • Not to operate any plant or equipment unless authorised.
  • To report any accident, near-miss, dangerous occurrence or dangerous condition to their line management.
  • To switch off and secure unattended plant or equipment.
  • To avoid improvised arrangements and suggest safe ways of eliminating hazards.
  • Not to participate in horseplay or place fellow employees in danger by their actions.

Adopt a proactive manner to energy usage and suggest ways of improving energy performance.

 

Duties and key responsibilities – Operational

Shadowing and working under the supervision of a Maintenance Technician or the Process Engineer to assist with the below:

  • Supporting the Process Engineer to ensure the team complies with all relevant requirements.
  • Maintaining the process equipment (Planned Preventative Maintenance) and carrying out cost effective repairs in a safe and timely manner.
  • Reporting and investigating incidents, damage and issues on site, without undue delay.
  • Process improvement projects in the workshop and on plant.
  • Developing ideas and solutions to improve operational performance.
  • Controlling contractors to ensure that they operate in accordance with the. Safe System of Work, for any process related projects.
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of housekeeping.
  • Competent in Health and Safety and environmentally aware.
  • Any other activities as designated by the Process Engineer.

 

Experience

Whilst experience is desirable, no experience is required, theoretical knowledge through attending a first year course in engineering would be beneficial.

 

Essential Knowledge

  • Clearly understands that Safety is Priority.
  • Proven basic knowledge of Math, Science, English and IT.
  • Understand Mechanical and Electrical science principals and be able to explain them.
