Help Keep History on Track
Are you passionate about engineering, construction or traditional skills? Looking for hands-on experience that’s unlike anything you’ll find in a typical workshop?
The Llangollen and Corwen Railway, in collaboration with Coleg Cambria, is offering exciting apprenticeship opportunities to students studying Level 2 or Level 3 Engineering, Fabrication & Welding, Construction or related qualifications.
About Us
The Llangollen and Corwen Railway is an award-winning heritage railway running through 11 miles of spectacular countryside in the beautiful Dee Valley National Landscape, North Wales.
Originally part of the historic Ruabon to Barmouth railway, the line closed in the 1960s. Thanks to the dedication of pioneering volunteers over the past 50 years, the railway has been rebuilt from Llangollen to Corwen, culminating in the opening of our brand-new Corwen Station in 2023.
Today, the railway is operated by the charitable Llangollen Railway Trust and welcomes thousands of visitors every year, making a significant contribution to the local economy and community. With over 400 volunteers and a dedicated team of skilled engineering staff, we are committed to preserving Britain’s railway heritage for future generations.

You could be involved in:

· Steam boiler repairs and restoration
· General fitting and machining
· Repair and maintenance of plant and machinery
· Mechanical overhaul of historic railway carriages
· Restoration of carriage bodies and interiors

Is This for You?
This isn’t an office job.
The work can be physically demanding, dirty and often takes place outdoors in all weathers. But if you’re enthusiastic, willing to learn and interested in engineering, construction or preserving industrial heritage, this is a rare opportunity to develop valuable practical skills while helping to keep history alive.
You’ll work alongside experienced professionals and dedicated volunteers, learning techniques that are becoming increasingly rare in modern industry.
