Bespoke Canners Ltd
Location: Alyn Industrial Estate, Wrexham, LL12 9YG
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Reports to: Operations Manager
Contract: Apprenticeship

About the role
Bespoke Canners is looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Apprentice Production & Manufacturing Operative to join our production team at our facility on Alyn Industrial Estate.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin a career within the food and drink manufacturing industry while gaining practical workplace experience and working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification.
You will receive full training and work alongside experienced members of our production team, learning how drinks are prepared, mixed, canned, packed and prepared for dispatch.
The role is varied and practical and would suit someone who enjoys hands-on work, working as part of a team and learning new skills.

What you’ll learn and do
As your skills and experience develop, your responsibilities will include:

  • Packing finished cans into cartons, trays and other packaging.
  • Checking cans for quality, correct labelling and date coding.
  • Stacking, wrapping and labelling finished pallets ready for storage or dispatch.
  • Learning how to safely use production and materials-handling equipment.
  • Accurately weighing and measuring ingredients according to approved recipes.
  • Checking ingredients and batch information before production.
  • Learning how drinks are mixed and prepared for canning.
  • Completing basic production and batch records accurately.
  • Learning to set up, operate and monitor production and packing equipment.
  • Cleaning and sanitising equipment, utensils and production areas.
  • Following food hygiene, allergen-control and contamination-prevention procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment.
  • Working with the wider production team to achieve daily production targets.
  • Learning safe manual-handling techniques and using appropriate handling equipment.
  • Reporting any equipment faults, quality concerns or safety issues to your supervisor.

As you progress through your apprenticeship, you may also receive training in the use of electric pallet trucks and forklift trucks, where appropriate to your role and subject to age, training and authorisation requirements.

What we’re looking for
You don’t need previous manufacturing experience. We’re looking for someone with the right attitude who is keen to learn.
You should be:

  • Reliable, punctual and responsible.
  • Willing to learn new skills.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team.
  • Able to follow instructions carefully.
  • Able to demonstrate good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with basic maths, as the role involves weighing, measuring and recording quantities.
  • Interested in manufacturing, production or the food and drink industry.
  • Prepared for a practical role that involves standing, packing and handling materials throughout the working day.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of hygiene, quality and workplace safety.

Previous factory, warehouse, food production or forklift experience would be useful but is not essential, as training will be provided.

Training and development
This is a genuine development opportunity rather than simply a factory position.
You will receive structured on-the-job training covering areas including:

  • Food safety and hygiene
  • Drink preparation and mixing
  • Production processes
  • Packing and quality control
  • Safe equipment operation
  • Cleaning and sanitisation procedures
  • Manual handling
  • Health and safety
  • Electric pallet truck operation
  • Forklift operation where appropriate

You will work towards an appropriate recognised apprenticeship qualification alongside your practical workplace training.
Successful completion of the apprenticeship may provide opportunities to progress into a permanent production role and potentially develop further into areas such as machine operation, drink preparation, quality, warehousing or production supervision.
