Key Responsibilities & Duties
1. Production Scheduling & Administration
- Assist in Creating Schedules: Support senior planners in drafting weekly and monthly production timelines using Material Resource Planning (MRP) systems, using SAGE 200 and Advanced Excel.
- Maintain Job Packs: Produce, update, and distribute manufacturing job packs, work instructions, and technical documentation directly to shop floor teams.
- Data Log Entry: Track and update “Work in Progress” (WIP) statuses, system lead times, and resource availability dashboards.
2. Inventory & Material Coordination
- Monitor Component Levels: Audit raw material and component stocks against current production forecasts to proactively identify and prevent manufacturing shortages.
- Supplier Communication: Collaborate with procurement and external vendors to track shipment statuses, specifically managing long-lead components.
- Stock Takes: Participate in regular perpetual inventory checks and annual physical stock counts to ensure system record accuracy.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting
- Stakeholder Relations: Act as a secondary point of contact for customer queries, tracking fulfilment progress and order delivery statuses.
- KPI Tracking: Gather, clean, and process operational data to generate monthly KPI metrics including plan adherence and material variances.
- Problem Solving: Attend daily tier meetings to help resolve immediate production disruptions, maintenance downtime, or shifting timelines.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grades 9–4 / A*–C) or equivalent, including English and a STEM subject such as Mathematics.
- Experience: This is an entry-level apprenticeship. 0–1 years of corporate experience is expected; any exposure to retail logistics, warehousing, or data entry is advantageous.
- Technical Literacy: Practical competency with Microsoft Office suite, specifically a functional comfort level with Microsoft Excel (data sorting, basic filtering, and basic formulas).
Career Progression & Training
Over a typical 15 to 28-month program, the apprentice will gain deep structural insights into corporate operations frameworks like Sales & Operational Planning (S&OP) and Material Resource Planning (MRP). Upon successful completion of the qualification, graduates can transition into roles such as Junior Production Scheduler, Materials Planner, or Supply Chain Analyst, with clear pathways leading toward professional certifications (e.g., CIPS or ASCM/APICS). There will be an opportunity to get hands on in the different areas of production to garner greater knowledge of how the business works day to day
