Main Purpose of Job

To assist in the lubrication, inspection, and maintenance of plant machinery and equipment while learning the fundamentals of lubrication practices. The Lubrication Apprentice works under the supervision of senior technicians to support the reliability, safety, and efficiency of operations, while developing the skills necessary to become a qualified Lubrication Technician.

Main Duties

  • Assist in performing routine lubrication of mechanical equipment, including bearings, gears, motors, pumps, and other rotating machinery.
  •  Learn and follow proper lubrication techniques, schedules, and safety procedures.
  •  Support in maintaining lubrication records, including usage, schedules, and inspection findings.
  •  Monitor oil levels, grease fittings, filters, and other lubrication-related components.
  •  Collect oil and grease samples for condition monitoring and analysis.
  •  Assist with preventive maintenance tasks to improve equipment reliability.
  •  Report abnormalities such as leaks, unusual noises, overheating, or wear to supervisors.
  •  Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, safe, and well-organized.
  •  Participate in training, mentoring, and skills development activities to build technical
    competence.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  •  Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
  •  Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in record keeping.
  •  Awareness of workplace safety practices and PPE requirements.
  •  Good communication and teamwork skills.
  •  Willingness to work in industrial environments (heat, noise, confined spaces, heights,
    etc.).

Complexity and Creativity

  • Work requires learning to identify the correct lubricants, tools, and techniques for different types of equipment.
  • Tasks involve following detailed schedules and procedures but also adapting when equipment conditions vary.
  • Apprentices are expected to apply problem-solving when unusual wear, leaks, or lubrication issues are observed, escalating findings appropriately.
  • Creativity is applied in learning efficient ways to carry out tasks in restricted or challenging environments.
  • As knowledge grows, apprentices will contribute ideas for improving lubrication practices, safety, and equipment reliability

Judgement and Decision Making

  • Decisions are guided by clear instructions, established procedures, and direct supervision.
  • Safety is the first priority — apprentices are expected to stop work immediately and report any unsafe conditions, abnormal equipment behavior, or potential hazards.
  • Learns to recognize early warning signs of equipment problems and promptly communicates them to supervisors or senior technicians.
  • Develops the ability to make sound decisions that prioritize safety, equipment protection, and environmental responsibility over speed or convenience.
