Job Summary
Apprentice Mechanical Design Engineer within the New Product Development Team, responsible for development of Atlas Copco’s next generation of smart, sustainable and industry leading Self-Pierce Riveting (SPR) equipment.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design Excellence: You’ll create 3D CAD models and drawings that meet our technical standards and clearly communicate the design intent to the rest of the business. Your innovation will form the backbone of our next-generation products.
- Hands-On Testing: Dive into engineering testing activities! Assemble test equipment, document test procedures, and monitor testing. Your practical involvement will drive product excellence.
- Support Project Success: Collaborate with our project management team to ensure our product development activities follow our lean-agile development process. Your contributions will keep us on the cutting edge.
- Data-Driven Innovation: Explore opportunities to integrate data collection and A.I within our existing and future Self Pierce Rivet (SPR) equipment. Your creativity will shape the future of our products.
- Create sustainable designs: Implement methods to reduce our carbon footprint and energy usage across the SPR equipment range. Your commitment to sustainability will make a lasting impact.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential Requirements (You need to be able to evidence all of these):
- GCSE English, Maths, and ICT equivalent to Grade C or above
- Evidence of implementation of strategies to effectively plan your own time and workload, this could be from your academic studies or something you have undertaken outside education.
Desirable Requirements (You do not need to be able to evidence all of these):
- Experience with 3D CAD tools and spreadsheet packages. We use Solid Edge for our product design but don’t worry if you don’t have previous experience – we can provide comprehensive training to get you up to speed.
- Previous experience of hands-on engineering activities. While any existing experience is advantageous, what truly matters is your enthusiasm to learn and engage.
