About Us
The Hand Hotel is a long-established venue in the heart of Chirk. Under new kitchen leadership, we’re rebuilding a strong, creative team and would like to offer a student or aspiring chef the chance to gain hands-on experience while continuing their studies with Coleg Cambria.
About the Role
This role is ideal for someone at the start of their culinary career — whether you’re already studying Professional Cookery or would like to begin an apprenticeship programme. As Commis Chef, you’ll support the Head Chef and wider team in all aspects of kitchen operation, learning through both practice and structured training.
Hours: Full-time or part-time considered
Start Date: Immediate
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with food preparation, cooking, and plating under supervision.
• Learn core techniques across different sections of the kitchen.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised work area.
• Follow food hygiene, safety, and allergen procedures.
• Support stock control, deliveries, and storage.
• Contribute to service setup and end-of-day cleaning routines.
What We’re Looking For
• Passion for cooking and a genuine desire to learn.
• Good teamwork, communication, and timekeeping.
• A positive attitude and willingness to take instruction.
• Some kitchen experience is an advantage but not essential.
Training and Development
• On-the-job training and mentoring from the Head Chef.
• Opportunity to complete a Professional Cookery qualification with Coleg Cambria.
• Progression routes available as your skills develop.
