Overview

KG Coatings, a specialist provider of aerospace surface treatments within Precision Castparts Corp (Fasteners division), is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and proactive Apprentice Maintenance Technician. A successful candidate will be able to support maintenance activities across a wide range of production equipment and play a key role in ensuring machine uptime and reliability.

This role offers the opportunity to learn while working in a high-spec aerospace manufacturing environment, gaining practical hands-on experience supporting with reactive and preventative maintenance work as well as monitoring asset performance through our bespoke asset tracking software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with both planned and corrective maintenance tasks
  • Support installation, replacement, and repair of machine components (e.g., vacuum chamber components, replacing components on IVD machine)
  • Learn to diagnose mechanical and electrical faults under supervision
  • Work safely with chemicals, metal components, and high-temperature equipment
  • Maintain workshop tools and follow 6S standards
  • Participate in small improvement projects to optimise process and equipment throughout
  • Contribute to safety initiatives and continuous improvement projects
  • Support continuous improvement and develop H&S best practices.

Skills and Attributes

  • Mechanical interest or background (e.g., welding, fitting, machining knowledge)
  • Basic understanding or curiosity about manufacturing maintenance and aerospace fasteners
  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills
  • Open-minded, proactive, and eager to learn
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly
  • Strong problem-solving mindset
  • Health & safety conscious
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles (advantageous)

Training & Development

  • On-the-job learning supported by experienced engineers and supervisors
  • Exposure to research & development activities where applicable

Candidate Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs A* – C including Maths, English, and a science (or equivalent)
  • Passion for engineering and hands-on learning
  • Willingness to comply with safety and operational procedures
