Vale of Llangollen Golf Club is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and motivated Apprentice Greenkeeper to join our dedicated course maintenance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a long-term career within the golf industry while gaining nationally recognised qualifications, practical experience, and professional development opportunities.
Working alongside our experienced greenkeeping team, you will be involved in the daily preparation and maintenance of our golf course, ensuring the highest standards are delivered for our members and visitors.

As part of our apprenticeship programme, you will work towards:
1. Level 2 Sports Turf Operative Apprenticeship through the Horticulture & Landscaping (NVQ equivalent)
2. Opportunities to progress onto Level 3 qualifications

In-House Training
You will receive comprehensive mentoring and practical instruction in:
1. Golf course preparation and presentation
2. Turf maintenance techniques
3. Machinery operation and maintenance
4. Irrigation systems

7. Sports turf agronomy
External Training Opportunities
In addition to your apprenticeship studies, opportunities may be available to undertake:
1. PA1 & PA6 Pesticide Application Certificates
2. Chainsaw and tree management qualifications
3. First Aid at Work Certification
4. LANTRA accredited courses
5. Industry seminars, workshops, and demonstrations
6. Continued professional development through the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA)

This role has genuine long-term career prospects, with opportunities to progress into more senior positions within the greenkeeping profession.
Key Duties
1. Mowing greens, tees, fairways and roughs
2. Course set-up and presentation
3. Raking and maintaining bunkers
4. Machinery cleaning and maintenance
5. Irrigation system operation
6. Divot replacement and repair work
7. Assisting with course improvement projects
8. Supporting environmental and sustainability initiatives
9. Ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times
What We’re Looking For
Essential
1. A positive attitude and willingness to learn
2. Strong work ethic and reliability
3. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
4. Good communication and teamwork skills
5. A genuine interest in golf, sport, countryside, or horticulture
Desirable
1. GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
2. Full UK Driving Licence or working towards obtaining one
3. An interest in machinery and practical outdoor work
Working Hours
This role will involve early starts, weekend working on a rota basis, and occasional bank holiday work, reflecting the operational requirements of a golf course.
